My work represents an IDF soldier constructed as a house with a child looking out of the window and other additional windows. That child represents me when I lived in Israel and looked outside into the real world, full of antisemitism, and it was even worse when I moved to the States. In front of the soldier/building is a line representing the force that he’s pushing against the rockets, Hamas members, and behind them are the protesters. The protesters are there because they motivate Hamas and fuel the flame of the growing antisemitism, but hide behind Hamas. Behind the soldier/building is Israel, locked away from it all, it is being protected by the soldiers in Israel (the large soldier represents the entire IDF) who give their lives to keep it safe.
The IDF soldier/building holds the key to keeping Israel locked and safe. The personal symbolism that this poster has to me is that I’ve always felt safe, knowing that the IDF had my back and that I had soldiers fighting for me and my family, whether I was living there or I was away.
I always had a deep appreciation for them. I try my best to do my part as a Jew by being proud, strong, and well-educated, for any obstacles that may come my way. And last but not least, do as much as I can to support the soldiers as much as possible, whether by sending letters, donating(money, food, supplies), and most importantly, praying for their lives. My message is a prayer for safety and security. But it is also of gratitude and appreciation for those who protect Eretz Israel.
I used old Yom Ha'atzmaut posters, my own personal connections to Israel, and current events as inspiration.
