All of the patterns on my poster are inside a drawing of a dove to symbolize Israel’s strong grasp on hope and perseverance. One major element I’ve incorporated into my poster is two waves to symbolize the splitting of the sea and what the Israelites have had to overcome. Another pattern on my poster is a field full of flowers to represent the beautiful plant life in Israel. The third design is pita and falafel to symbolize Israel's unique culture. The fourth drawing on my poster is of people holding hands to represent the diversity in Israel. The final design I’ve drawn is the words “bring them home now” to show that despite the happiness of Israel’s 77th birthday, we should always be aware of the people who can’t celebrate it. One reason Israel plays a monumental role in the Jewish world is that Israel is a home that all Jews can go back to, no matter the circumstance. Another reason is that Israel is the center of Jewish culture because people can pray at the Kotel, learn about their Jewish ancestry and celebrate their religion openly. The first way my poster shows this is the image of different people holding hands. In many places, Judaism isn’t openly embraced, but in Israel it is. Another example of Israel’s importance in the Jewish world is the picture of the sea splitting. This scene from the Torah shows how important Israel is to the story of Jewish people. The message I’m sending with my poster is of Israel’s perseverance. I want to emphasize the fact that despite all of the obstacles Israel had to overcome (and the obstacles they’re still overcoming) Israeli culture still flourishes. One of my inspirations from the primary sources was a drawing by Amsellum Emanuelle. Their drawing inspired me with their multi-layered pattern and the hand in the center of the drawing painted with the Israeli colors.
