The enterprise of sending a dried flower from the children of Israel to the children of the world began in 1951 on the third Independence Day of the State of Israel. Initiated by the education department of Keren Hayesod, it continued in the sixties until the Six Day War.
The purpose of the initiative was to strengthen the connection between Israel and the Jewish world. Children and youth joined the initiative with enthusiasm, and every year they sent the postcards along with a personal greeting and flowers that they dried themselves.
Keren Hayesod is the body in charge of collecting funds on behalf of the Zionist movement. It was established by the Zionist Congress in 1920 and to this day is the only public body recognized by the state for raising funds. Over the years, the fund has helped Jews in need and continues to contribute to education, infrastructure development, immigration and other national missions.
