Explore several worksheets to foster a conversation about communal responsibility and solidarity, texts and primary sources that highlight the idea of cohesion between Jewish people around the world and letters written by children during times of war.

Embarking on a Journey!

Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrations are an important milestone, as teens embark on their personal journey toward becoming independent members of the Jewish people. In this new program, The National Library of Israel (NLI) invites teens to explore their heritage and reflect on their personal connection to it.

How does it work?

The NLI Bar/Bat Mitzvah Journey includes 12 chapters that touch upon various elements of Jewish identity and culture through selected treasures from our archives and collections. In chapter 13 the learners will have an opportunity to share a primary source of their own – an authentic presentation of their personal experience, thus adding their link in the chain of history.

Throughout the program, the participants will document their unique journey in a digital scrapbook we have designed especially for them. There they can add and share their personal reflections and experiences by creating and collecting the elements that make this milestone meaningful to them!
