This activity offers learners an opportunity to get to know a specific community through its unique history and customs. Carrying a "suitcase", students can "travel" (i.e. research) these communities, while also reflecting on their own community in the process
This activity offers learners an opportunity to get to know a specific community through its unique history and customs. Carrying a "suitcase", students can "travel" (i.e. research) these communities, while also reflecting on their own community in the process
Introduce students to the "suitcase" that represents some aspects of the community they are going to learn about
Students (individually or in small groups) are assigned a community or choose a community they want to learn about, and fill out the various rubrics using online or other materials provided by the teacher
Set up a class exhibit and have students present the community they "travelled" to. You can add photos or images to enhance the exhibit
Create a "suitcase" that tells the story of your community (this can be done in small groups or with the entire class). Reflect and discuss how the communities you researched are similar to or different than your community
