October 7: Sticking to Those We Lost

Connect to the people featured in the memorial stickers, which are meant to inspire hope, resilience, and unity post October 7th.

  • Students have 3-5 minutes to walk around the classroom looking at the printouts of the stickers hung around the room and to choose the sticker they connect to the most.
  • Students use the QR code to learn more about the person featured on their chosen sticker.

Group Activity

Discussion Questions

After learning more about the person featured on their chosen sticker, students discuss the questions below:

  • Does the sticker profile a civilian or a soldier?
  • What value or personality trait is most visible in the sticker?
  • What does the quote on the sticker tell you about the person profiled?
  • Who created the sticker, and for which audience?
  • What does the sticker indicate about the current Israeli culture?
  • What does the sticker make you feel? (sadness, confusion, anger, hope, love, curiosity, sense of community, patriotism)

Creative Activity

Students reflect on how their connection to Israel, the Jewish community, and their Jewish identity have been affected since October 7, 2023. They express their thoughts and feelings by designing a personal sticker that communicates an idea, a value, a memory, or an emotion reflecting their response to this moment in history.

  • Stickers can be designed by hand or digitally, and should include an image and a quote (biblical, literary, cultural, etc.).
  • Students write 3-5 sentences explaining the inspiration for the sticker, the design, and what message they want it to convey.  
  • Students share their stickers with the class or in small groups.
